From streets lined with bed bound zinnias
to back roads of broomweed and clay -
where night falls
a woman waits for a lover.
From wine wisp sips of the iris
to a scissortail smoke in the hay -
where night falls
a woman waits for a man.

That waiting.. The change in the last stanza from lover to man says so much...
Ah, no one says it better, MZ!! Terrific!
Ah, so much here for all senses... magical!
Wine wisp sips iris scissortail smoke hay... I love the way you put words together.
The crisp details broken up by that expectant feel of the waiting lines is exquisite, Mz!
Sharp and tight imagery ~ I like the subtle change of the waiting for a lover, for a man ~
Thanks for linking up with Sunday's Challenge MZ ~ Happy weekend ~
"scissortail smoke"..seems to know her story...
From wine wisp sips of the iris
to a scissortail smoke in the hay -
Herein lies the art of the poet - when words do more than they say.
so beautiful!! "a woman waits for a man"!!
This is beautiful...One I wish I had penned.
This makes me think of how expectations change over time. Like, earlier on in a relationship, a lover might be what blows your hair back. But over time, you grow to realize how badly you need a person to be more than a lover, but to also man up, and be all that that means.
I agree that the change from "lover" to "man" adds layers and possibilities that make this even more interesting than it already was.
I adore the second line, as well as the fifth and sixth. Gorgeous.
I would advise anyone reading your poem aloud to take their time .. that second stanza is a real tongue twister! I enjoyed it immensely.
I swore, never again. How could i forget you you give the truth...can't speak it, condemned again, how i missed you. I have re-opened a photo blog although google took all my photos, and i have a writing blog, i think you mightlike it...check it out if you can, i don't know how i forgot you, while everybody else is forgetting me
