This is not an earthquake.
It's the centrifugal shake
of Lincoln spinning in the sod
at what we call debate;
at the nastiness and nonsense,
the hucksters and the hate,
and what passes for Republican these days.

The nastiness and nonsense are just UNBELIEVABLE!
Thanks for this poem!
Oooh fiesty...!
Sadly, you've summed up the political scene, MZ.
It is sad and simply insane.
Oh, poor Lincoln...and don't get me started!
Woman, your brain absolutely floors me! I love the way you turned the tired "rolling over in his grave" expression on its head. So clever.
I am republican and am appalled at all the hate and meanness...I stood at the voting booth the other day and cried. I wrote in my father and voted for him. I keep hoping for sanity and kindness to bloom but feel the soil is too hard and dry.
Yes, not to mention the fascism, bigotry, contempt, white supremacy, assaults on people of color, mockery of the disabled.....it is starting to sound like Nazi Germany down there. We are scared up here in Canada. Every single sane person MUST VOTE this time around.
I'm glad I don't have to listen to this... But I do read the reviews... But I'm very very scared... The same type of men seems to take over the world.
Cleverly done. The US political and particularly Presidential systems are in need of overhaul. In a nation of 318 million people it should be possible to have a system free of lobbying, corruption and throwing up the worst, not the best, the nation has to offer.
Get 'er outta here! Loser. :-P
..what passes for BOTH parties. What choices we (don't) have... Fantastic poem
As a transwoman, who deals with mental illness, I feel like, its the 1930s, and not the 2010s, with the rise of fascism and xenophobic attitudes towards all visible minorities. May the American electoric gain some sense of sanity, between now and November.
I can feel the centrifugal shake and I'm not even in the ground yet!
Interestingly you have given the political nonsense a whole new angle - wonderful.
Welcome to OLN and hope you have a good weekend.
It is very nasty alright ~ I read that some Americans plant to come over to the US ~ Thanks for joining us MZ ~
the whole graveyard is spinning. ~
How bout what just passes for government these days? It's a pit of snakes!
