He follows me into the night to rest his head in my lap while I meditate. He nudges against my silence when it has left him out too long.
I rest my hand on his head and stroke his ears in time with my breathing. A mantra made of touch. When my eyes close, he sleeps.

I like that relationship between the dog and stars ~ There's a gentleness that speaks to me of a mother and child bond too ~
Love your first haibun MZ ~ Thanks for joining in ~
Herding stars into constellations . Now that is some pups. I would take a pups over most people though. Much more loyal and they know a lot mote about love
I lost my four-legged friend, Sam, over two years ago, I still miss him every day. This one does indeed speak to me.
I enjoyed this glimpse into this shared moment with your dog, Mama Zen!
You have described the beauty and depth of the relationship between human and dog with great feeling! I concur.
So beautiful!
I am a cat person. But I love dogs as well. This so speaks to me of the love of our animals for us and how they are so faithful and do not judge us. This is so very precious, in the nice sense of the word.
I loved this with every fiber of my being. So gorgeous, MZ. I especially loved the herding of constellations of stars - how very cool!!!!
This is highbrow... should be included in an anthology about pets/dogs. It's beautiful and so true and so moving.
I'll not say Wow again but instead will say how much this touched me. May all the dogs herd stars in a loving home like yours.
A manta made of touch. What a blessed way.. I just wish I could deal like a dog.
A lovely sensory haibun.
That was a rare and beautiful moment, so well-described. Worked so well as a haibun.
Loved it.. nudged against my silence and herding stars.. perfect together!
Oh, this made me smile. Love love love "herding stars".
Your first haibun is gentle and soft...like a loyal dog companion; well done!
gorgeous!
The warmth of this affection is palpable.
Big Snoop! A canine superstar for sure.
of course I'm not surprised you excel at form, too.
and dogs. always. ~
This made me smile. It reminded me of sitting with my own dog next to me on the couch. I love to pat his head and rub his soft, floppy ears. Blessings to your and your pup. Peace, Linda
So very sweet. I can relate to this although my meditation partner was my cat. I would receive those nudges too. MZ, I hope my comment "takes" today...I was unsuccessful last night.

"A mantra made of touch"--love this line!
"He nudges against my silence when it has left him out too long."
They really can be demanding of our love which is certainly a beautiful thing. I really enjoyed this haibun.
