I write these things because I must
keep the truth for prying eyes
and lock lies in my rusted trust.
I write these things because I must.
I'm the bluff, and I'm the tell.
A silhouette spread 'neath the sheets.
Call or fold me in farewell.
I'm the bluff; I'm the tell,
the knell,
the need
to write these things.

Love love LOVE the double meaning in "fold" here.
Your repeating line works so well.
Loved it. Great work with the prompt!
Hey Mz--so many wonderful reversals here--the keeping the truth for prying eyes--carried out in the bluff and tell--what gives us away, though we hold it dear and close to the vest, and though we also give it away too--the rhyme works like a knell--a kind of repetition--thanks for coming up with something so fast and so sharp too.
k.
Bluff and tell.. what a great tension between those word.. I love those layers you give here.
And you've done it again!! Awesome as always, MZ!! Hope you're enjoying your weekend!!
Again, HITH do you do it?
The rhyme, the playfulness disguising the reality...
Wowza!
Super! And it has a tolling quality to it
Your poems often seem very upfront but then always wow with subtlety and depth. Leaves me shaking my head then nodding in admiration.
Beautiful rhyming patterns, underscoring some deep truths. "I write these things because I must." Yes.
Wow. Be the need until you become part of the solution. I feel such yearning here! Thank you.
Such a powerful vibe flowing through this brilliant piece :D
Loved it!

Im the bluff, I'm the tell. that is a great line. This is the best MZ.
Sometimes a person just has to!
Luvverly! And how glad your readers are that you don't fight that imperative.
Hmm...I like to think of the other meaning for bluff as well especially with the silhouette line...it does cause me to think of landscape...intriguing write, MZ!
I'm the bluff, and I'm the tell.
What a great line, perfectly placed in this poem which reads like a poet's confession.
Every time I read your work I'm blown away by the way the words not only sound gorgeous the way you've arranged them but by the depth of meaning they hold.
Detective Goren would approve.
Well... That was as interesting as it was strange. Good write :-)

"I'm the bluff, and I'm the tell"
fabulous line! great write, MZ!
have a lovely week.
♥
damn. ~
There is magic here, I am not sure what kind. But tell, you must.
My mind kept replacing "bluff" with "buff." That was pretty exciting when I got to the "'neath the sheets" part.
..
This is so intriguing (for real). ;)
Offering up the truth for "prying eyes" and then keeping the lies to yourself. But really, we do lie to ourselves more than we do to others, don't we?
Really gorgeous writing, MZ. You kill it every time. Your consistency blows my mind.
....because I must...to survive I'm the bluff...oh girl, you've said it
I understand. I write my things because if I don't give them a life, an identity, then they will be as a rose on the moon, beautiful and destined to wither an die. Great poem, Zenzy!
so crisp and wow!!
Great double meaning and awesome rhythm to this!
