All that's left
is right in front of me.
All that's left
is to write it down.
Teacups with shattered saucers.
An unblinking doll in tattered dress.
A penciled map thrice folded,
twice followed,
and both times misread.
All that's left
is what's been left to me.
It's only right
that I should write it down.

Awww...darn it... this is soooo sad!
I hope it isn't all that's left MZ
... because if you don't then the secrets die with you, wonderful poem. Mosk
But writing it down is such a big deal, even when we memorialize broken dreams and confusion. Very nice poem. Much enjoyed reading this.
It's only write...
def leave it...and the map for those that come behind...great near repetition in the opening and close...you do tight verse really well....love this..

This is awesome, MZ! All that's left and that's it!
I have that same damn map!
We should sue rand mcnally and AAA for telling us we could get there from here
Maps are tricky things, eh?
Oh, wow. I really dig this: "A penciled map thrice folded, twice followed, and both times misread."
Love all your word play with homophones.
A little is left at least, those maps can be a beast.
Well said. Love this !
Oh, I think this is rather lovely:
Teacups with shattered saucers.
An unblinking doll in tattered dress.
A penciled map thrice folded,
twice followed,
and both times misread.
This is strong writing—deceptively so.
The left/write thing is very cool here and nothing meeting it's purposes. So interesting and wonderfully distiller. K.
Sorry --distilked not that either on phone and train
Perhaps because I've dealt with so much loss, so recently, my mind immediately wants to turn to unwanted inheritances and the memories that come with them...the entire piece is fantastic, but like the others...I too am drawn to that map
What is written on lives on!
Great snapshots here, each encapsulating a sense of futility, of loss, but also of scraps, something to build from perhaps. A nice read.

Damn Straight!
Write it down! I LOVE THIS! Why? Because it is what is left that makes us what we are. It is the tatters that clad the valiant. It is the mapped, wrinkled, that defines out path. So, GO! Live it! Love it! Own it! Write it!
...off my soapbox now... ;-)

Making your mark MZ.
I am marching to your beat
left right left right left right…
You don't miss a beat!
Yup, write it down...then what's left after you, what you leave is a treasure!
and don't we all feel like shattered sauced sometimes
Pathos plus!
Broken, shattered, tattered, misread... I know the feelings well. Thanks for writing them down.
Stark and simple, almost unbearably tense with a sense of loss and endings. the map really does it for me. Fine poem, MZ--you are on a major roll of late.
"Write it down" has been a mantra of mine in heavy rotation for some time now. Have I ever mentioned how much I enjoy your work?
Oh buck up, Bo Peep. There's nothing wrong here that good drugs or modern weaponry couldn't set right in a jiffy!
how do i follow Fireblossom?
especially love the final stanza!
