I don't deadhead anymore.
I leave leavings for the birds.
There's beauty in decay
if you look at it that way.
I don't deathbed anymore.
I crawl up right beside you.
There's beauty in the way
we still fit together.
No, I don't deadhead anymore.
Dust gathers on the vinyl.
There's beauty in what stays
and what lets you go.

Love it!! I don't deadhead anymore either!!
I love this. Too much deadheading lately - I like the idea of leaving some for the birds. Yes, Godspeed, dear Galen!
Wonderful play on deadhead. Love it.
Yes, rest in peace G-man.
I love your opening with the birds - your inner meaning and tone. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, Mama Zen. ♥
A DeadHead wannabe? I liked them but, ...
How about
Jerry Garcia went to meet his God
And the old band never was the same again
DeadHead Women and school bus limousines
The bottles were dusty but the drops they were clean
..
I, too, like the idea of leaving some for the birds. Yes, Godspeed dear Galen. I loved writing for him. I think he brought out the best in many of us.
This is really creepy in a delicious way...
Fantastic, especially climbing right up on the bed with the one who is on her way out of this life.......I remember my cousin climbing on the bed and holding our grandma and how comforted my grandma must have been.
Plus your closing lines are absolute perfection.
Wow. (1) neither do I. (2) Yes. (3) sometimes I let my deadhead play out, but digitally. I gave up record players long ago.
perfect, perfect.
as a side note, Sophie Masloff, the wonderful once-Mayor of Pittsburgh (who just recently passed away) referred to those "Dead-Enders" who were partying in the civic arena parking lot before a show (and causing no end of consternation, apparently). unforgettable. :)
Brilliant - a real statement piece!
There's beauty in everything ... we just need to keep our eyes open :-)
made me go to youtube and find Frou Frou play Let Go.
peace, G-man. Glad he entrusted you and Shay with the reins, Kelli ~
A ferally fine 55 elegy for the G-Man. I could never drive 55, but the example of ferocity and generosity to be found in such corsets leave me convinced I have so much more to learn. We're a small tribe, and it's always such a loss when a leading light vanishes. We write on, or try to, dirtying silence and loving anyway.
A lovely poem. I am very sad. Thanks. k.
MZ--this comment seems to have been stuck in Captcha land on my computer which I haven't opened in a day or so, due to work . Anyway, thought this was wonderful. k. (Manicddaily)
as a gardener and poet... I agree
Yes the closing lines are excellent.
I love this. We leave all the fruit on our ornamental crabapple tree, the upper branches for the birds and the lower branches for the deer who come in winter.
Thanks for hosting the homophone challenge, MZ, I didn't get far with it, but it was fun.
Luv, K
This is a gorgeous poem. I almost missed it, but am glad i didn't!
