That cloud has mothered Rain
a dozen daybreaks.
Her quiet girl
just this side of a storm.
She hides her behind lightning
and the noise the thunder makes -
pretending falling's not
what Rain is for.
Some pathetic fallacy (I hope) for Kerry's prompt at Real Toads

Wow, you captured it in brevity even! Love your closing,MZ!
The mother and daughter are imagined in the proper magnitude of storm: flash and thunder, yes, but always those tears of rain.
Poor little Rain, hidden away by her Mama.
Mother lost control of her charge for us Monday. We were coming down from Mt. Snowdonia when the clouds shuddered and light up, spilling their Rain and her cousin, Hail.
Nice reading, M.Z. Thank you.
..
and WOW I've come to expect the unexpected and you deliver, every time, this I know I've said it before but this is one of my favourites, bravo Mama Zen
Such an imaginative approach: cloud as mother of gentle rain, the forerunner of the more brutal storm.
Lovely maternal poem.
Pathetic fallacy used to perfection here, Mama Z!
you scatter gems every time you pen, MZ ~
I can only second what everyone else's already said here! Beautiful imagery!
A new favorite for me, really love this.
What a great hook those opening lines are, that drew me right in....lovely.
Swoonworthy! I love your first line-it reminds me of my mom. She said the vinegar had mothered?! I was like, huh?! I was young ;D
Wondrous, Mama Zen!
Oh, I like Ella's description. Yes, so MANY of your poems are swoon worthy. I must get some smelling salts before visiting your blog…
This is really good, MZ. Just when I'm sure that the first stanza is my favorite, I read the second and love that, too.
A gem of a poem...
Wonderful. K.
