What I need now -
pennies weighting your pepper spray eyes.
Did I speak aloud?
Surely, not I.
This love is wrongs
wrapped in placental shrouds throats
clogged with feather down
tongues tied.
It's the dog at her dead master's feet
that gets buried alive.

grim. or perhaps, Grimm's, where it would fit superbly. ~
Interesting ending about the dog and her master.
Ack! Poor dog! I must check out this prompt! Yikes.
Incredible, MZ. I loved every word and image, but (what I perceive in) the opening is definitely my favorite:
"What I need now -
pennies [panties] weighting your pepper spray eyes"
Powerful work, regardless of your intention or my perception. The closing image is also haunting.
"did I speak aloud" - Love that line! this deserves to be read many times. I think there is much to discover in these 44 words.
For me the words haunting and disturbing come to mind--maybe it's more about the emotions you elicit. Wow!
Wow, Mama Zen! '... pennies weighting your pepper spray eyes' and '... love is wrongs wrapped in placental shrouds' - diving deep into darkness today.
And I feel so sorry for the dog.
The pepper-spray eyes and the coins on the eyes... death leading up to that dog being buried alive... reminds me of that image of "his master's voice"...
This had so much power - love is wrongs wrapped in placental shrouds- it made me want to cry for my children.
Unforgettable write, MZ!
pennies on pepper spray eyes, that's a lot to take in. And the dog buried with his dead master. Lots of darkness there
I think pepper spray burns the eyes creating moments of darkness.
Weird, wild, and weighty...write on!
Just a brilliant piece of writing - some great poetry in our minds that rarely gets spoken aloud!
I really enjoyed this. The first lines were a great hook and the last had a lot of impact. "Placental shrouds" was especially moving. A lot for a reader to get into in this poem!
The opening stanza is striking. Can't handle the dog part.
Wow...another poetic genius today!!
Great dark imagery!
From the dark side....so much to read into that dog, lying dead at the master's feet....why?
That's a powerful 44!
Marvelously macabre!
Marvelously macabre.
goodness..didn't expect the dark ending, poor dog.
