just war - (noun) - a war that is deemed to be morally or theologically justifiable
Trust the church to give us cover
and comfort; war is righteous
to protect lambs
from lions.
But when the lions borrow
talons from the eagle and teeth from the bear -
when the sheet covered bodies stretch row upon row
it's hard to see who or where
the lambs are. The wool is pulled too tight
over our eyes
to see our Just War is just war;
both lambs and lions die.

Oooph. (And do so whether or not we don the wolves' or sheep's skin.) Powerful!
Very powerful poem Love how you say Our just war is just...war
I agree. The idea of a "just war" is very culturally conditioned. I like the different uses of Just.
I have never understood how any church can justify war for any reason. Your poem reinforces my belief that it's impossible.
Holy crapoly, MZ. This is powerful. It should be dug into a marble monument.
Sad times, these are.
Powerful. I am thinking of Benjamin Creme's quote, there can be no peace without social justice. I especially love the power in "War is just war; both lambs and lions die."
What you say is so true. The way you say it is so original and piercing.
You powerfully bring out a truth (that is dying). There is a a truth that is being kept from us. The end of war is coming.
"Just War is just war; / both lambs and lions die." True but who cares? Love how the immensity of Just toys into just. Piercing.
Yes indeed. Are those left behind really the winners
Much love...
Beautifully put
my sons are 18 and 16, and worry about the draft being instituted.
Zappa was right, I think ~
You are 100% correct - the wool is being pulled over our eyes. Thank God, though, that it doesn't mean we are all blind.
This is so powerful!!
No such thing as just war. This is brilliant.
And it's the yellow fatcat that sends them there.
