Words
and words wound with music.
Sun sneaking through the blackjack trees.
I learned my lines where the hay met the hollow -
walked the stage with dew wet feet.
I slopped hogs with the palms of a poet.
Called cattle with a choir in my throat.
My treble and staff - my own two hands -
I danced down Section Line Road.
How I danced down Section Line Road!

slopped hogs with the palms of a poet... loved that🙂
I slopped hogs with the palms of a poet.

I love the underlying strength and passion in this!!❤️
"I slopped hogs with the palms of a poet" an awesome line and write.
I LOVE this! Especially slopping hogs with the hands of a poet.
My favourite line:
Called cattle with a choir in my throat..
I love the way it sounds.
This sing songs along... and I adore where hay met the hollow
So musical to my ears at least...and in my ears Johnny Cash was a singin it.
This is my favorite line: "Sun sneaking through the blackjack trees." The next line is my second favorite. I also like how you let the first word of the poem hang on its own line, giving it weight, but also adding it to the "S" (and "sex") in the title to form "swords." And really, dance, music, outdoors, sunshine, heat, poetry ... these are the swords we should all be using to fight our battles, to protect ourselves.
I just love this. It truly speaks to me as a farmer and a poet.
Slapping hogs... my hands are too soft for that.
MZ, this is so good ~
This is a such a vividly vocal poem, Mama Zen, especially the lines:
'Sun sneaking through the blackjack trees'
and
'I slopped hogs with the palms of a poet.
Called cattle with a choir in my throat'.
Something of the Okie Orpheus here, happily between rapture and State Line Road. And all nature hushed to hear!
I learned my lines where the hay met the hollow -
walked the stage with dew wet feet
How one loves to go through the baptism of fire to better oneself!
Hank
Lucky hogs... and poet, too.
