It's a cool and grey
wind in the dead leaves day
today.
There's a bite to the breeze
leaning the trees to the East.
Rumors of rain
whisper of rot in the hay
that lays
in the field
while we bury
Old Pete.

Old Pete… a dog?
Perfect images for a burial day.
I am sorry for the passing of Pete. I hope he is in a nice place, one where your writer (you?) can visit.
We have Adi (beagle therapy dog, my buddy), Katrin (toy poodle), and Amber (yellow-striped cat) all in a box, ready for something.
..
You painted a perfect scene. Onward, Pete.
Ah, this does remind me of losing my Sam dog and the tears returned.
The rot in the hay makes me think of a horse. Poor thing. Thanks, MZ, for the somehow clear pic of a sad damp day--I like thinking of things like that! k.
I can feel the bite in that breeze.
You paint the scene so clearly, I can see the field, the dead leaves, feel the wind.....poor old Pete. Sad to say goodbye to an old friend, especially our devoted animal friends.
Oh.. my deepest condolences.. its a beautiful tribute to Pete.
So expertly written!
This makes me sad~ I lost my hound in January and I am still struggling~
This is eloquent and spare and stark ~~ as well it should be.
on, Pete. Peace, MZ ~
A very visual version of a threnody for Pete. I feel the weight of shoes in mud from those that's left behind.
i'm assuming that Pete is a pet and also Pete is a dog; i find the resonance of sadness pure, not overworked or exaggerated
nice write
thanks for dropping in for a peek at mine
much love...
Such days contain their own gravity.
A moment etched on your brain, in your heart. RIP Old Pete.
Very sad, very gripping... but at least the trees lean to the east. Most cultures look to the east as the direction of birth or rebirth.
RIP Old Pete
Absolutely perfect images... so sorry if you've just lost a pet.
