Peering at her dinner plate
my only child intones
mournfully,
"You have died of dysentery."
If Emily were here and me
I wonder, would she know
how to make poetry
from the beautiful misery
of a snot smeared sleeve.

Never mind, Emily, you have done it to perfection!!!! And your daughter has inherited your humor and brilliance.
Emily is one of those artists who wrote in isolation because it allowed her to be the kid and God the parent. Hard to share all that bee-wild eloquence with some snotnosed punk. And then, that was ALL Emily got to do ...
Not a day goes by that I don't wish I were an Emily---living and writing in seclusion. No. I don't think she could make beautiful poetry of snot. I don't think she'd have what it takes. This life is miserable, and somehow still bliss, but I for one am a prime example of how lame the poetry that comes of it can become. Yours, on the other hand, is perfection. Try having four, though, and then let's see how well you do. ;)
wow! when i was a little tot i would just sit there with arms folded, head down mumbling...i hate cabish...sniffle
Thanks as always for the belly laughs and giggles to start my week, MZ!!!
Your humor just leaps off the page. Thanks for making me giggle.
So....no stars?
ps--if you haven't seen the water filter ad, never mind me.
I love it!!!! One of my favorites. The innocent seem to speak in poetry.
You make snot pretty and necessary.
