I juggle stars and deal cons-
tellations from the soft side
of the deck.
Where there are elephants,
there is elephant shit;
watch where you step.
I once had the knees for the flying trapeze,
but I fell
and couldn't forget.
Now I order the world
of the come-after girl -
needle and thread for her net.

Ah, yes! Do be careful where you step even away from the circus -- maybe no elephants, but plenty of dogs! Great one as always, MZ!
Amazing. Love the last line bestest of all, MZ. When I read the title I immediately began singing this lyric from Journey's "Faithfully":
"Circus life
under the big top world
we all need the clowns
to make us smile...
through space and time
always another show..."
You're welcome. Now it's in your head, too. xo
This is so lovely, how it works on the literal and figurative level, and the unsentimental wisdom it imparts.
Pow! The mender of nets has so much to teach those still in and above the ring. Great, great poem! (Our poems are so close, yet in other worlds altogether!)
Love this, especially the second stanza.
As they say "pooop" happens....I can totally relate to this Mama Zen! :-)
Your opening rocks and the rest does not falter...love your voice in this and the rhyme...great write, Mama Zen!
I love your unique perspective, love the elephant and elephant poop.
Love the knees/trapeze rhyme. Loved this prompt.
Thanks for the imaginative prompt, and this poem.
yeah, i really get this, MZ. i think i am only a year or two from ordering that world with needle and thread (right now mostly just repairing wounded plushies, but soon enough).
And what a terrific job the ordering is! Wonderful, as always, Zen
You have such a unique spin on life. I really enjoyed this and of course my favorite line is one about elephants!
Lovely--keep that safety net intact. k.
I think I have been working without a net lately. Love the elephant part of this!
... Adding one more word of praise ~ awesome!
"where there are elephants, there is elephant shit"---haha, indeed :-) Great poem! Really enjoyed it.
Never thought of the circus that way, o elephant shits for that matter, oh man wow
