Everyday is someone's birthday,
but I don't bake the cakes no more.
All them candles burn the house down;
don't like confetti on my floor.
And, the headlines on my wrapping paper
just make a soul wish they was never born.

every day is a reason to celebrate as well...have to get my son to a birthday party here in a bit...gld i am not cleaning up.
I think birthday parties are highly over-rated, especially over a certain age. Smiles.
world weary voice in this ~
Ha. I know it's not funny, but I do like your subtlety here--that is my favorite wrapping paper also. Thanks, MZ. k.
Yes, but there is still chocolate, and as long as there is choclate, there is hope.
The world we live in has become a scary place. I don't subscribe to the newspaper anymore.
What Shay says -as long as there is chocolate - and cake, for that matter - there is hope. Smiles.
Funny how birthdays make us think of birth and existence and what we live through. News wrappers used to underline that connection. Out of sight, out of mind?
I no longer celebrate my birthday. But I am more than willing to eat cake--chocolate--once a year on that day, and if someone gives me a box of chocolates, I would be glad to gobble them up.
comes a time you are just glad they keep coming, but feel no need to celebrate.
You've got to use the comics to wrap with otherwise the party just might end up in tears!
The ones on my birthday cake are a fire hazard too--a little sweet stuff helps the medicine go down, though.
Sometimes your verse could translate directly int a blues form. I think this one could.
There is nothing wrong with the world...just the shit people who inhabit it:)
I’m no big fan of birthday parties and cakes as well. To be in the papers now means big bad news indeed.
Birthdays are for other people.
Well there you, that's why I don't bake, I mean,come on !!!
I'm not sure why...But, I enjoyed the piece :-)
Sweet!
