I turn the earth
and plant the seeds
and tend the needs
of my flower bed
until it's neat,
straight and sweet,
and completely
tame.
As the day's last light
slips from my sight,
I tuck myself tight
in my flower bed
to slip/stray/dream
of those wilder things
I cannot weed
away.

Oh wow I love this, especially those closing lines wow
plant the seeds
and tend the needs
love it!
I'm don't think you would even really want to weed them away, MZ. And anyway, dreams *should* be a little wild.
Ah, nice. k.
PS - (I am reminded of "Where the Wild Things ARe.") Which is lovely. k.
i think i would kinda like to keep a few of my wilder things...too much order would drive me crazy
Beautiful poem! A well composed poem with so much hidden meaning!
Thanks for sharing!
The comments also added a special touch!
You have a poet's eye for the face in the mirror. The contrast is worked brilliantly in this piece.
The wildflowers tended to in dreams might someday bloom in full sight, when the gardener is ready?
"those wilder things I cannot weed away" - just perfect!
"...dream of those wilder things I cannot weed away."
Fantastic!
How much love and self hood grow under cover of darkness. I like the two--or two-levels-of--flowerbeds.
Ooo...I love this! Very magical in the way you've written it. I think any gardener or lover of nature can really relate to this poem. Left me smiling!
The best gardens always keep a little piece of the wild...and if you want order over beauty, there is always the damn lawn. Still, weeds can choke and kill, so there is a place in nightmare for them all their own.
Keep those wild parts.
Very Nice
Fantastic rhyme, rhythm and song to match the balance of wildness and tameness. A philosophical poem disguised as a garden poem! ;-)
This flows so well. I love the turn it takes at the end. Yes, after a day spent "tidying" everything and everyone, I dream of being a bit wild myself!
Oh this is so good!
I am glad I have my weeds...

I love this so much! I feel breathless at how beautifully this is written and expresses so many interrelated concepts. I think I just fell in love with the author!
Watch out Mr. Zen everything is always at peace one with the universe husband . . . the untamed woman is lurking within your wife!
This was wonderful - I don't think you should try to weed away the wild things. I had two vivid dreams in the past two nights, one was horrible, one was exquisite. May you have such dreams.
How lucky to have so many flower beds!
I am in awe...how amazingly magical and oh so sad
What a great ending:
"to slip/stray/dream
of those wilder things
I cannot weed
away"
