The wolf's at the door.
His howls fall like autumn leaves,
red raw as heartache.
His howls fall like leaves,
scratching at the dead wood sky,
splintering the stars.
Red raw as heartache.
Virgin moons between his teeth
The wolf's at the door.

my favorite part :)
I feel the pain, but I cannot help.
you are always thinking outside the box, amazing write, you are a mentor with words
This poem evokes some striking images...
Some striking images indeed! You do have a way with words, MZ. One can feel the pain.

Anything, anything at all to do with wolf my age-long friend, yes Raven loves the wolf. Good poem ... great images.
I can't imagine a better set of images than this--entire first stanza, the dead wood sky, virgin moons--all of it. Fine poem, and amazingly effective and light touch on the repetition.
That bi--, um, I meant to say, The Witch stole what i was going to say! ;-)
Really, this overflows with marvelous imagery.
god, haunting...virgin moons between his teeth...nice touch....
Very nice lines- Love the first stanza- haikus make it even more impressive, thanks
Like a trailer for an out of body nightmare! Wonderfully disturbing!
Wonderful imagery, perfect presentation.
Stunning words.
MZ,
Fast and hard rendition. This makes for a forceful take . Great!

I've always thought of a wolf's howl as something that rises and soars before eventually drifting away... but that would hardly suit your poem now, would it? Nice piece!
I can see the wolf of despair tearing the heart after its been broken...such vivid imagery...I have felt this pain before...Fantastic work!!
american werewolf in London still makes me shit my pants - i watch it all the time though - brilliant
love the line "splintering the stars" -the emotions elicited from your imagery is terrific!
