Each a tomb
with a Sisyphus stone,
these are the rooms I've left.
The cheap motel room;
worn carpet
thick with tv glass.
The classroom;
slick tiled,
not even a window
to jump from.
The death room;
the rigor mortis
the I'm fine rictus
of grief.
Outside, my Mary Magdalene;
darling, where
have you been?

Uni doesn't like this one, either. Uni knows zero about poetry, though. I like the construction of it...boom, boom, boom, twist.

I could not help but laugh when I got to these lines - you don't know how many times, I as the teacher, look longingly out my window, wishing to make that leap.
Love the reference to Sisyphus and his rolling stone doomed to always escape him downhill! Your poetry always explodes with such intelligence and clever twists...

Jesus! (That seems apropos, given the Mary Magdalene line.) The "I'm fine rictus" was one of my favorites, but this one is jim-jammed with so many jewels.
(And Kerry is right. It's the teachers--not the students--who are screaming and tantrumming and wanting to jump out the windows.)
