hand me down mary janes
a size too small
- pinched toes
and panty hose
bunched up at the starting line
in the field behind the church
half-melted chocolate eggs
sticky as the mud Julie pushed me in

i've had pantyhose bunched up...but "at the starting line?" too funny. i'd never thought of it like that before. loved it. and the mary janes too
A delightful poem!
Love each tightness, each stickiness, s they dredge up sensations within memories.
Oh I love this poem - so full of fun memories, even the bunched up panty hose. I wore them on my wedding day but haven't worn them since. I love the mud.
Smiled at the bunched up pantyhose. Thankfully it has been decades since such things were anywhere near me. LOL. I just now remembered they were a wonderful invention, as before they arrived, we had garter belts and nylon stockings - with lines down the back that we had to keep STRAIGHT. Good grief.
A humorous look at a childhood memory. Thanks for sharing.
Ah, that ending is brilliant!
Then end made me remember all the reasons why it's great to be a grown-up,
Such a delightful read!
Oh my this brought back memories....I'll add a chocolate and mud stained dress to go with those hand me down shoes....but who cared except for my mom....I was having too much fun!
Smiles... Thanks I needed that :)

Delightful peek at way back then
What a beautiful flash of memory for us to smile at and then to recall a similar scene with ourselves as the protagonist in those years gone by.
I love the double duty the "bunched up" line serves. And yes, it brought back a flash of memories for me.
Vividly recalled; you make me feel it with you. Wonderful throwaway conclusion.
Wonderfully funny and fun, but the aspect of memory somehow gives it a poignancy also. Great distilled writing, MZ. K.
How could Julie do that? How could she?!!! :)
makes me wonder if Julie ever got hers, from you... ~
Made me smile. Snippets that form a complete memory. Love it!
