Trumpets glint
in the dying sun.
The toms and bass begin to gallop.
Blood thrills
as the pace builds
to the speed of a thousand
racing hearts.
Full brass!
Trilling the high notes
then letting them collapse
into the gathering night.
The flutes flower
four beats - power
rumbles through every chest
white gloves
pull the reins
war hooves
rest.

Really nice use of imagery here
Much love...
Oh does this make me smile to read and listen to at the same time! I do love a big brass band. Awesome celebration! Live music at games & events is the best. Arguably, I'm there more for the music than the sports! LOL Thanks for sharing.
Great description of the marching band. Your writing makes me feel the excitement of the song building.
IT's like I was there.
I love those closing lines!
What would the game be without the band?
Love a great band...but this made me want to come along.
If find marching bands so much thrilling to watch
Their expertise fills me with awe.
Very ceremonial. Made me sit up straighter. Better a horse race than a war.
Oh., well captured! A different kind of ekphrastic. It was lovely to watch/listen and read at the eame time.
They're pretty cool, I have to admit. let me go see your poems....
The 2 at Sicklit are excellent, Kel! I shared the article to my Facebook page; I hope that's okay.
I just noticed you have become a follower of my blog -- thank you so much! I perceive from this post that you are in the Atlanta area. Well, so are we (Mrs. RWP and I). Not only that, but Chris Moore who has been director of the Georgia Tech band for years and years lived on our street, and he and our son roomed together during their first year in college. Glad to have made your acquaintance!
Beg pardon. You were not the person who followed my blog, you were one of the blogs that the person who followed my blog follows. I hope that makes sense. Everything else I said in my comment is true, though!
