This is my mountain made of things I've lost;
this is the valley I've lost things from.
One gets higher, the other gets deeper;
they're never done.
This spot on the prairie was all I could carry;
the things I've kept or found.
But even the prairie beneath my feet is unsettled now.
Shaky ground.
Maps redrawn.

Excellent title and an analogy I can relate to - very on point.
Whoa!"Shaky ground. Maps redrawn." As always, you say it all succinctly and to perfection, what took me a kazillion stanzas revealed here in its essence. Wonderful writing, Mama Zen!
This is so profound :)
Ah, Perfect and succinct as always and, as always, I repeat myself, but I do SO enjoy everything you write, MZ!! Thank you!!
Yes, as time goes on it seems those mountains DO get higher! And the holes deeper. Sigh.
WOW! I have a similar mountain, valley and shifting ground. I love the way you imagine the essence of living until, as I see it, we have only the grave. But poems like this that help us see are beyond Topography and more part of the valley's depth than the mountain's height. I find lots of joy in your prairie. I think it will survive the redrawing of the maps.
Brilliant! I think many may have this mountain and valley but few describe them so well.
The last thing we need when we are happy is change. How well you convey this in your poem.
such amazing thoughts. You are wise and full of depth. I greatly applaud you!
Amazing! :)
Beautifully penned :)
maps redrawn, contours changed..story of life!
everyone's life story...sigh...
What a way to describe life. All of our mountains are getting bigger, all our valleys are getting deeper, and all our prairies--if we're living life the right way--are shifting.
As always--in just a few lines you prod us into thinking...
Luv your exploration and resettlement notions. This is typical modern day life in every aspect of being: language, technology, mores...
Much love...
Ah yes pure perfection your verse :D
Despite the peaks and troughs i feel 'you' may have control of the shovel and the soil..that is indeed the nature of the world..to figure one thing out and keep your head above ground only to fall a back again..a clever title and a fine cartography of a poem
As someone who lives in earthquake country, both literally and figuratively, I appreciate this. Loved, as usual.
