Chlorine and sunscreen and summer
lingering on my skin
long after an afternoon swim
in the city pool.
Crimson and clover on a handmade quilt.
An open book of pretty horses.
Choices sprawled in a slant of sun.
Blonde still in my hair.

I think you are hot! (your real face is WAY sexier than your avatar's)I don't know what it is about glasses, but they totally do it for me.
I'm sick of winter too. Definitely ready to feel the rub of the sun again.
I love the quilt line. Now I'm going to look up that song. :)
Love this - the re-modelling tends to give that pop up sparkle in your face effect. Your poem does that too, quite often too :D
Lots of love,
Sanaa
I always love reading your verse--this one just feels so fresh! Like the remodel as well! Best to you!
You evoke a different world and time, one that is sensual and private. Well chosen moments and images here to convey that. The new look is great.

This is a poem, for me, full of smells. Very sensory. Tactile. Really brings these moments to life. Thanks for this!
I love the new look.....and the memory of life before the internet. I remember summers when bathing suits never fully dried on the line.
Yes, those were the good old days....before the internet. "An open book of pretty horses." <---so very apt! I really was a horse lover when I was a kid. Smiles.
Oh those old days... I guess it was different for me... I have forgotten, but it was probably books.... much more books. I like the look you have created.
Ah, always fun to look back!! It reminds me how lucky I am to live in my today world!! A hell of lot better than that old one!!! Although back then I did have horses and I still miss them!!
And I love the new look for the blog and particularly for YOU!!! Have a great new week, MZ!!!
Love the new look! I too have been thinking back to years before all this technology.
'Chlorine and sunscreen and summer
lingering on my skin'
What a fabulous sensory image that combo of smells evokes for me!
I think we need a few times before the internet.
Looking good on your site. Where's my Mama Zen? It's nice to put a real and pretty face to your voice.
First, this is very real in that great way--palpable and relatable--your choices of details so apt.
Secondly, your remodeling looks great. I've been meaning to do something with mine too, and also to highlight books a bit more, but I am too lazy, and not sure how to do it on wordpress. Good luck! k.
MZ!!! You look like a witty, gorgeous poet!!! Love the remodel. Looks awesome! xo
thank you for the memories of how life was without the internet. It was wonderful back then too.
This is as sweet as a spring breeze.
It looks really nice around here! I like it!
I'm especially grateful for the enlarged print! I have pages of that scrawl still, but not even one snip of the then-blonde streaked hair.
I see, smell and taste this poem... It fills me with nostalgia.
About the changes, love the larger font (since I'm half-blind). I really like seeing your picture, too (you are sooo beautiful!)
Oh yes, i noticed the changes before being prompted. Nice.
Another just-enough-said poem from your palatable plate, your style, served your way
Have a good week
much love...
how simple yet so poignant. the wonder of simplicity
gracias
Even the name of this poetry forced me to think about my life :) It feels like real life.
I love your new look. White on black is stunning! Your poem feels like I see a piece of your history! Very nic.
'Choices sprawled in a slant of sun'--and all too often we had no idea where they led. Really beautiful and also really evocative. MZ. And I very much like the blog makeover.
Makes before the internet seem quite magical - open books of horses..yes i remember..and copying them out an colouring them in - love the re-model also - very good to see you :)
I, too, remember the smell of chlorine on my skin, and mine was a book of dogs... we had it good.
PS I like the new look. I shall miss your old avatar but it is good to see your face.
:)
When your eyes look straight at the observer there is an immediate connection.
I had always imagined you with a whip before and I was careful what I said! Your poem is great we yearn for the past when we seemed to be less controlled or ruled by technology and free to really be ourselves.
yeah, the real demarcation line: "BI" - before internet... ~
and like the remodel! ~
