I saw the stop sign.
I just didn't stop.
Didn't even try
to look in my mama's eyes
when I lied about it
Police car in the driveway
red and blue lights
to hit the brakes
mistake, officer,
I hit the gas by mistake
or explain
the urge
the surge of adrenaline
the raw, fleeting joy.
They said I must have been chasing some boy.
I saw the stop sign.
I just didn't stop.

Love the double entendre. Don't stop, don't stop, don't stop!!!!!!!!! ;-) xo
Wowzers! Knocked my socks off. I especially love the "raw, fleeting joy."
A drive on the wild side..I had a few of those, felt the "raw, fleeting joy." There was usually a boy involved. :) Thanks so much for taking part in the prompt.
Oh, the urge to cut loose and just be reckless and dangerous. To flip off your devils AND your angels and just leap. I love this, and almost chose this same picture myself.
ps--I don't think I really said that this is also scary and self-destructive. Yes, and...?
I LOVE how you write the why behind this abandoned, vine embraced car, MZ...brilliant!
Living on the wild side, cool !
Great write, Thelma.
Love this! Spot on :D
Terrific as always and I find myself shaking my head and asking -- "how do you do it??" And I am so glad you do and share it!! Have a great weekend!!
The poem surges too. Thanks, MZ> k.
Sometime we have to go past those stopsigns.. why even bother to explain, though the consequences might sting.
Ah! What a wonderful way to capture the free spirit of youth in juxtaposition with the sensible voice of adulthood.
The crazy antics but the joys of youth were kept silently in memory! Rules then were made to be broken and loving it. When caught one was forgiven and let off on pleadings 'didn't know it was wrong, swear!' Thanks for the memory MZ!
Hank
What a story to go with the picture!! Like the bit about not making eye contact with Mamma!!
