There are moons you don't stand under
for fear of falling light.
There are suns you split asunder
to hurry help the night.
There are talismans you trade
for minutes secondhand.
There are flowers at the wall;
there are crosses in the sand.

Mama Zen--As is the case when you use rhyme, it's invisible.
What first and foremost is the images and the emotions you convey--in just a few words.
Have a great end of 2013...and may 2014 bring another book from you...
Sharp, sweet, bitter and strong--the night seems to hurry all by itself these days, but the falling light...that is heavy, indeed. Happy Yule, MZ.
Yes indeed, sharp, sweet, bitter and strong, I do agree with Hedgewitch! Hope you and Daddy Zen and Baby Puppy have a very, very Merry Christmas!!

I really love this. It is a little mantra for life - a reminder of the good and bad, joyous and fearful.
Merry Christmas!
You had me at moons. A lovely, excellent poem. I love rhyming poetry. I was talking to a friend yesterday about rhyme vs. prose and brought up music and how it almost always rhymes. I love, love, love rhyming poems. Thanks for sharing your poetry this year. It's helped me make it through the year. Blessings! xo
Feels like a charm, a riddle, and the answer is to stay out of cemeteries on the beach when you could be warm with your family inside with artificial Light. (?)
May your heart be full of Light and music all week and well into the new year.
There are, all of those.
Now, assemble them all in three minutes or less and win this state of the art coffee maker!
another incantation that rolls and dips with pleasing mystery ~
I read this as incriptions found at crossroads and cross-quarters, inked on the margins of maps and over the lintels of doors we must pass through: Admonitions from a silent oracle. The rhyme and meter are perfect and the darkness inside the sooth impeccable.
I don't know how you do what you do but it catches me by the throat, this is splendid
