I need angels at the oars
if I'm to get this boat ashore.
Every preacher grab a pail.
Bishops! Buckets! Better bail!
Sisters, pray this piece to earth,
or we're walkin' waves
and suckin' surf.

"Throw out the lifeline, someone is slipping away."
It does take more than bishops with buckets to get one to the shore!
Amen! Happy Yule to you and your motley crew of pirates, princesses and geckos, MZ.
Preachers and Bishops? I'm praying!
Have a wonderful Christmas, sister poet, enjoying hearth and home and all.
I like this spare tell-it-like-it-is approach! Angels would be helpful at the oars! Happy Holidays.
If doesn't stand fire-and-brimstone hellfire on its head, this at least tosses it on its side. Wonderful stuff.
I love this. I absolutely love it. Preachers and pails, bishops and buckets...perfect...and the last three lines are wonderful.

Hallelujah, sista'! ;-) Happy Holidays, Poet. xo
I love this! Especially the bishops with buckets!
Walking waves and sucking surf ... sounds about right mz
This topic - and your wonderful poem - could not be more timely, tonight, my friend.
Sister, I'm a'prayin .... don't want no waves, no surf!
Is someone on the drums?
The alliteration works some devious wonders in this poem. The renegade has vented. Like an awesome mini dramatic monologue.
Love the alliteration and the fun rhyme in this, MZ...and great point made!!
I love this. "or we're walkin' waves and suckin' surf" Fantastic as always!!
Good luck with the Bishops...I hope you can at least see the shore from where you're looking.
Best Season's Greetings to you and yours.
Steve K.
Damn those bishops with buckets-too slow! I love your poem
If Michael can't be found to heave the oars, then who is it we can call on? A seasick deacon is about as helpful as a limp captain. This is really a gem, M. Zen. A chantey for today's rough tide. - B
