Here I am, all facts and flaws.
No gathered lace, no place to hide.
No dulling drape of darkness.
No rhymes to maintain distance.
Here I am, all ache and fear -
fear of my own fragility,
fear that you'll want less of me
as there's less of me
to want.

What's the saying, it's easier to be more than who you are than who you are. The turn here lifts a lot of mascara.
I think that is scary ... when your true self is wanted. Terrifying, actually.
A stark reminder of what may be when one lets one's guard down.
or what happens when we've pretended so long we're afraid to stop? Where am I? Enjoyed this very much.
The comments are as interesting as the (extremely good and startlingly raw) poem.
If the want is belittling ... there is always less. Alas.
that's presenting self as naked as it gets; those fears are so real
have a good week
much love...
This hasn't the frills of some of your work but the fragility is terribly compelling and appealing as well. All seems brave. K.
OH, I love this take.
"No rhymes to maintain distance." Whew. That got me.
I love this unexpected take from warrior woman Mama Zen. I actually think this question shows you even stronger than usual. It may possibly be the scariest question to ask.
When we get bare naked vulnerable with someone about who we really are that is scary. You have incredible guts and balls to ask. :)
can't imagine wanting less with a soul as big as yours, MZ ~
Seeing just naked facts and flaws can be quite confronting. There is a sense of helpless vulnerability in this status. And yet... could this too be just a denial of, a lack of confidence in all that is good? An intriguing poem.
Tough and torn, wise and forlorn. There seems to be less to go around all the time for me.
"No rhymes to maintain distance." I never thought of that before, but yes... I agree. The rest is true, too--the more we give, the more we live and learn and put into living... the less of us that seems to be available for others to have.
This does carry a new tone for you...really powerful poem, MZ.
