--- Sleigh Ride
It's a chore to wrestle the moonlight
from an untroubled southern skywhen the moon's in a phase to slumber and laze
dark to the northern eye.
I've promised my darling a sleigh ride,
and a kiss is the promised prize.
So it's my chore to wrestle the moonlight
and gather some stars on the side.
For Karin's prompt at Real Toads. Also submitted to Poetry Pantry.

Wrestle the moonlight...such a. beautiful image...
Stunning!!!
Happy holidays :D
Ah, charming. I am glad that you are wrestling with the moon light and not your companion! (No, sorry to joke--really sweetly done, MZ.) Thanks. k.
Sometimes it's a pretty rigged match, that bout. Also, sleighs seem to glide poorly on bermuda grass. Nonetheless, the warmth behind this and the shine, come through equally well.
This is just...yeah.
Well, of course, I love it -- as always! I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, but it looks as though it will be a wet one instead!! Have a great week, MZ, and a very Happy Holiday!!
And what a wonderful chore to wrestle the moon and stars for our beloved...oh what a joy to read this poem!
Happy Holidays!
Would it really be a chore.. if so there seem to be plenty of rewards. No white christmas scheduled...
Delightfully distinctive, as ever Mama!! Clever, effective, crisp and a little sexy too... All in all, a real treat to read.. With Best Wishes Scott
I love the wrestling of moonlight.
Haha ...and what a wonderful surprise at the end of a sleigh ride.

Lovely, Mom Z. I've promised mine (real life) the moon and those stars I catch to have as her own, from me.
I have a sleigh also, Jingle Bells. And a ride, just the two.
..
Ha - I like the image of wrestling the moon to catch a few stars..
Gathering stars with you...happy holidays to you, Kelly.
MZ--One mark of a good writer is their ability to nudge a reader into reconsidering/shifting/reflecting. In just a few lines, you made me reflect on a Christmas song that I've heard thousands of times.
"Wrestle with the moonlight" is a powerful image.
As always--well done.
an interesting chore :)
Love maybe is like Rilke said about Jacob -- wrestling unsuccessfully with successfully greater angels. What are we going to do with that moon for Christmas?
Aw, worth the effort, probably.
Let's hope the kiss is a fair reward for your efforts - of course it will be!
This kind of love that we all search for! <3
Mama Zen - your poems are a blessing. Keep wrestling and writing!
Such a beautiful carol in a more modern feminine voice.
Sending you Christmas wishes from Southern skies (and very hot they are too!)
What a seductively enticing poem. He's a lucky man.
I so like the wrestling with the moonlight image, it conjures up all kinds of feels
Happy Christmas! Put some wheels on that sleigh and enjoy the darkness, I say! And stay on that sleigh through the full moon and all ... It's worth the struggle, I think.
