I have
a flush toilet
and running water;
heat, cool,
and a roof over my head.
How dare I complain
that shit rolls and flows downhill
like running water;
that you love me hot and cold;
that under every roof is a glass ceiling?

Right about it all as always, MZ!!
your frustration and fragility sieves through sharply
much love...
I hate when love runs hot and cold. And that there is shit, of every kind. Great write, as always.
This is really cleverly composed and packs an emotional punch.
Perfectly crafted. Love the flip side turn of events
The hot and cold.. but still worse when it mix to tepid though
Love hot and cold is so difficult! I feel like my moodiness is more at fault in my personal case, still awful. k.
Not daring, the 'you' would certainly get knocked out by the glass ceiling!
"How dare I complain" ha, I love that. You said it!
reminds of the the cup be half full or empty
Three hots and a cot, I call it. Hey, I don't care if I have them, you know me, I'm still gonna complain about the shit, especially if it's running down my neighbor's life, too!! wink Amy
I get filled with the spirit, but I leak. Just when wax-tide has me saying "yeah,"ebb-tide is whispering, "yeah but.'Or are we chased by pocket furies?
There's always room to bitch, I say--especially when the shit is rolling, the sky is falling and the ceiling never does. I love the voice in this, MZ.
I'm with Hedge on this one.. Complaining is a means to improving a situation merely by acknowledging its existence.
You know your shit Mama Zen!! I love the way you can make us look at the mundane frustrations of life a whole different way. That is what true poets do. :-)
The "everyday" is never dull with you - even shit is turned into poetry :)
still wishing for a better world
i see
keep plugging away
some of us are on your side

we feel what we feel… it's not like eating all the vegetables on your plate fills the empty belly of a hungry child in another house. We can care about the world and our own lives with compassion and frustration… all is welcome.
oh god i know, ever-stoic, long-suffering. argh.
Well said but difficult to remember when the shit is headed our way!
"I have
a flush toilet
and running water;
heat, cool,
and a roof over my head."
you nailed the luxuries we so take for granted. and yet, isn't love a necessity for humans as well? maybe for all living beings. all i know is, that without it, we merely exist. and to have it running hot and cold? worse than not having it at all?
great poem, MZ!
♥
easy to forget ~
Oh my. The last couple of lines are powerful.
