Love, thy enemy came to borrow
sugar, the soft of my skin,
and a seed from the tree of tongues.
I gave him sonnets,
the nape of my neck,
and a second glance
that he'll return tomorrow.

Ah, you do know how to end my day!! And no one does it better!!
tree of tongue seeds sprouted
all they give him is sass
sonnets - so 19th century
but sugar and the nape
those things will bring him back
cheers

Oh, if only!
The return, I mean.
(Your poems feed me.)
Loved this MZ! And the second glance!
Okay, Shay has a new book out.
How 'bout you?
(Lovely poem by the way...)
You ALWAYS knock it right out of the park!!!!! Good one!
You ALWAYS knock it right out of the park!!!!! Good one!
I think a return is inevitable .. that's the right lure..
luv the awesome imagery of this short piece
Happy Valentines 2015
much love...
This is so subtle: the poison and the apple. So good.
Clever, how you worked that opening.
Amazing what one comma can do, and one second glance. Beautiful, sensuous and serpentine, MZ.
Ha--so clever--agree with all the comments--glad he got the sugar. k.
Oooo!! A Sevenling!! One of my favorite forms and you rocked it MZ!!
Borrowing the soft of your skin? What delicious imagery. I'm sure your neighbor will come back often. The tree of tongues is stunning, as is the fact that you only gave him a seed. That, of course, makes me think of making a baby.
Girl, what you do with commas and a turn of phrase! Just so darn clever this poem.
"a seed from the tree of tongues" I love that! Yes, clever as always. :)
Sugar and sonnets, the nape of a neck ~~~ delicious stuff.

if we'd only get the instructions right, if we'd only heard it right! (Like those distant guys in the crowd at the Sermon of the Mount in "The Life of Brian" who thought the Savior said, "blessed are the cheesemakers.") Do we pair up with our opposites because we thought we were supposed to love our enemies? Bedding down with love's enemy? Or are the subtle and real worlds perforce that different?
"seed from the tree of tongues" --Love that. And yeah, the commas.
perfect ~
