Bread bones dust my lips,
but I turn my face from wine
and scent/seek instead
the pale, pagan pulse
river rushing sacrament
just . . . under. . . your skin.
A bit of True Blood haiku . . .for Open Link Night at dVerse.

Ohhhh--the trubie fan I am loves this--even if I was not a fan, I would savor these images. Well done.
Vampires, geez haha sadly I've watched the show too.
Not a vamp guy, but I loves me some Mama Z haiku!
I love the pulsing feel and eroticism of your haikus.
Blood beneath
the skin—once pierced
A drop escapes
Ooh- la-la, sexy and creepy just like me!
Oooo.. sexy MZ but, that tongue poking out of her mouth doesn't look to sexy to me at all..haha
Gives new meaning to the ideal of sacrament...strong, focused, intense in image and word. Great job.
nothing as eternally sexy as the vampire(ss)
This is bloody and hot. Vampires and people like me, love it.
This is bloody good!
ooh... chills!
Suddenly, my lemon/lime kool aid seems really wimpy.
Love the music.
This is chillingly erotic--Loved it!
OOOOOOOh ... I wanna do bad things with you ... what a lyric! ~~ what a poem!!!
Vampires and blood evoke some feelings of mysticism. A little dose of them good at times. Nicely MZ

Oh man, I love that song ... especially "I wanna do bad things with you." I think that line alone would draw out the vampire in even the wimpiest character.
I'm crazy about what you've done here with the layered meaning: "I turn my face from wine and scent/seek instead" ... On one hand, you're turning from scent to seek instead. On the other hand, you're turning from wine to scent-seek (seek by following the scent of your prey). I think there might also be a bit of "sense"/"senses" play in there as well. On one hand, you're seeking using your senses. On the other hand, you're making an effort to seek using some semblance of sense (perhaps).
I'm still rolling around "bread bones" in my head. What a deviation from traditional communion! I think this is hard bread, perhaps those little wafers.
I like your word play in the second stanza as well. What you are after is a river that runs beneath someone's skin. But also, perhaps the "pagan pulse" is your own and it is your pulse that is getting under the skin of your prey. I would think there would be quite a connection between the hunter and hunted ... just before the slaughter, at least. :)
When at the altar wine transubstantiates into the blood of Christ, are we in the same territory?
So many tropes in this--you paint the mystery of the other, their very life, that we want to feed on, just below what they show the world, something only they (and we) can have. Eternally seductive, that life force.
This is awesome! Enjoyed every word! :)
smiles...love the allusions to communion...and vampirism...i wanted to be one at an earlier age....
Eeks! But will she still respect him in the morning?

pale pagan pulse...shivers...bread bones...more shivers
wonderful, and i know nothing of true blood.
Simply - ha! k.
i haven't gotten to see 'True Blood' {i don't get the channel} but even without that reference, i LOVE this poem!
"the pale, pagan pulse
river rushing sacrament
just. . . under. . .your skin."
very sensual and dangerous!
♥
HAH! One of my favorite shows!
I love the Haiku's sensual undertones.
Tasty!
I've loved that song from the minute I heard it on the show! LOVE it! And love that True Blood haiku homage...yeah, MZ!
(Having a hard time posting...)
Wow, kiddo......so good it freaks me out a little.
that was a tasty little treat.
I too care little for wine, though I can't say the pulsing river draws me either.
Another vote for the second haiku here. Truly shivery.
Never saw the show or read the books, but I know what it's about, and this is a great poetic rendering/tribute to it and no less, in your impeccably produced haiku. Great write. Thanks
